Composed of 73% Syrah and 27% Malbec and shows beautiful fruit flavors of black cherry, blackberry and blueberry with aromas of black pepper, leather and tobacco. These are two grape varieties that excel in the Lake Chelan climate and soils.
Our Glacial Gravels Malbec is grown predominately at the top of our hillside vineyard where it is steepest and rockiest. The vines must delve deep to gather moisture and nutrients and the soil helps to create a powerful but elegant wine with good structure.
The Syrah is from our head-trained vines located on a northern block closer to the tasting room. The globelet-style vines control the vigour and put more concentrated energy into the fruit, resulting in the intense flavors in this highly alluring and libidinous wine.
Review from the 2017 vintage by Rand Sealy:
S & M stands for Syrah (50%) and Malbec (50%) vinified separately, then blended. It offers a deep ruby color and enticing aromas of blackberry, black cherry, blueberry and black currants with scents of crushed black roses, mulberry, sweet tobacco, lavender, anise, cracked pepper and incense. The flavors, are bold and direct, brimming with black and blue fruits that are infused with licorice, cocoa, French roast and glacial minerals. On the back, the wine turns chewy textured with macerated berries, roasted hazelnuts, mocha, crème de cassis and kirsch liqueurs and touches of smoked meats and charcoal, followed by a smooth ripe tannin finish. 19/20 points
